Murphy's Design

It's about home and family.

What are you looking for in your upcoming home project? Is it fixing poorly laid out rooms, creating space for you and your loved ones to recharge each day, a home that welcomes family and friends?  That's exactly what John and I do.

The majority of our work is working side by side with you and planning well thought out, beautiful and personal kitchen's that become family hubs and bathroom's that are your personal retreats.

Clients don't call us just because of the end result, they call us because they want support and guidance from start to finish. They are frustrated with their existing Kitchen, Master Bathroom, or un-inspiring living rooms. Specifically they don't want to live with the uneasy feeling they get from broken appliances, outdated cabinets, terrible floor plans, leaky fixtures, and cluttered rooms anymore. You know what needs fixing, what you need help with is making the right decisions about how much to spend and what to spend it on. We get it, and that is why we get named top Contractor year after year by those we do work for.

And there it began, our mission was simple; help you solve your problems, install beautifully designed spaces kitchens and retreat bathrooms, so you can get on with feeling proud and happy in your home.

 Remodeling Changes Lives!

Our Story. Early in the development of Murphy's Design we had the honor of completing work for my elderly parents.  My family home was in need of updating and my Dad could no longer navigate the two levels.  It meant the difference of moving from the home they raised their children, welcomed grand children and great grand children or being able to stay comfortably for years longer.  With an eye to their changing needs and understanding that they didn't want it to look like they needed help we worked through their challenges.  The result was they got to experience many more years in our home, years of family gatherings, and grand children came to know the house as a place of great love and happiness.

They have since passed but during this difficult time of change they trusted us to modify our family home so they could age in place. Both John and I got great satisfaction in knowing that they had the trust and confidence that we would guide them with honesty about their needs and work through the cost.  We realized then that the  work we are doing is more than the products that we install, it's about the gathering of family and friends, it's about your daily comfort, safety and the peace that comes from the result of the work that we are doing. It's because your home is both an emotional and financial investment and everyone deserves to feel safe and happy in their home.  We came to realize that good remodeling changes lives.

Make things Easy.

When talking with our customers we began to understand that craftsmanship is important but they need help with the planning and decision making.  It's the #1 reason you call us.  We found three important qualities that are also equally important in your satisfaction;

1) Communicating. You know what problems need solving and you want to be part of the planning. You know what you want and you know what this project will mean to you and your families future.  You need our help making it happen.

By asking the right questions and listening intently we collaborate and visually communicate. No guesswork.

2) Managing and guiding the project. You want creative solutions to problems, even if the problem is a slight disagreement between family members on the vision. As the designer, I am your advocate, you get to watch while I negotiate the hurdles making sure the details don't get lost in translation.  During construction John acts as the steward of the project, protecting your interests along the way.

What's special about us is you have total access to both John and I, we are working with you every step of the way.

3) Timing and Schedules.  You like knowing what's happening next.  You love seeing the big picture of how the project will come together.

Today, our lives are filled with new friends and families of projects we have completed.  By specializing in Kitchen and Master Bathroom spaces we get to tackle changes that really transform how you feel and live in your home everyday. Do we take on other spaces? Of course, we take on other important spaces in your home such as basements, interior built-ins and moldings.

We realized then that the  work we are doing is more than the products that we install, it’s about the gathering of family and friends, it’s about your day to day comfort, safety and the happiness that comes from the result of the work we are doing. We realized that good remodeling changes lives.

Cynthia Murphy

Kitchen and Bath Design and Remodeling is a team sport.  I lead the design, making sure your personality and voice comes through in the final product. You are an important part of our team, our business is set up so that we work together from the first meeting to the finished room.  It takes time and attention so we keep Murphy's Design small.  I have always been a student of home design and I spend my free time seeking out new ways to update outdated floor plans and transform them to fit current lifestyles.  I am a creative at heart and always have several knitting or art projects in the works, I find it keeps me engaged in the current use of texture and color.

You want someone who looks beyond the trends and delivers timeless value.

Your project needs to reflect your life, your family and your needs, today and in the future.  My "superpower" is listening closely then guiding you to the best decision for your project.  I love how the rooms come together, one layer at a time, first with the walls, removing and adding, then with the cabinets to define the function and space.  The finishes become the wardrobe and lighting becomes the jewels.

My years of experience makes me uniquely qualified to guide you through:

  • Spacial planning and reorganization

  • Structural modification

  • Budgeting and Cost evaluation

  • Cabinetry and Trim Design and Selection

  • Tile Specification and layout

  • Lighting design and selection

  • Plumbing specification

  • Plus, all the curated details that the space unique to you.

Together we visit local showrooms, meet in your home, and craft every detail of your new space, working wherever is more efficient and convenient for you.

My unusual role as both the designer, planner and business owner gives me more insight into the costs as the decisions are being made.  I start the design process with a target budget based on our early conversations.  Not every Contractor has a Kitchen and Bath Designer, and Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler guiding every step of the planning process; another unique feature of working with Murphy's Design.

Why is this important? As we move through the selections we are able to discuss if decisions are impacting that target budget.  This saves both time and money as we can work together to create solutions without having to wait until the end of the selection process to give thoughtful consideration and get to make necessary adjustments in real time.
